Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards Summit Card MLA

Multiple data points from Reddit and around the web have confirmed Bank of America is applying Military Lending Act protections to the Atmos Rewards Summit Card.

These Military Lending Act or MLA benefits are extended to “covered borrowers” of the MLA, which include:

  • Active duty members in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Space Force, or Coast Guard
  • Spouse of an Active Duty member of the Armed Forces
  • National Guardsmen, Air National Guardsmen, or military Reservist on Title 10, Title 32, or other active duty orders 30 days or longer

These are similar to the MLA protections American Express offers and Chase offers.

One reddit user reported:

Just need to be patient and wait. After my second month of opening, the fee was credited. I did leave a balance before the statement closing date

Atmos Rewards credit card eligibility rules

Bank of America issues the Atmos Rewards Summit card. Eligibility for the card is unrelated to having any other Atmos Rewards product, so you should be eligible for this card and the bonus if you have another Atmos Rewards card, Alaska Mileage Plan card, or HawaiianMiles Barclays card.

Bank of America has a few application rules:

  • Bank of America has the 2/3/4 rule: you can open at most 2 Bank of America cards every 2 months, at most 4 Bank of America cards every 12 months, and at most 4 Bank of America cards every 24 months
  • Bank of America has the 3/12 rule, meaning you may not be approved for a card if you’ve opened three or more new cards with any card issuer in the past 12 months; this doesn’t seem to apply if you have a banking relationship with Bank of America, which you may want to have anyway, to get the 10% relationship bonus points. Similar to Chase 5/24 rule.

Atmos Summit Card Spending Categories

3x points on Alaska & Hawaiian purchases

The Atmos Rewards Summit Card offers 3x points on Alaska and Hawaiian flight purchases. So if you fly either of those Alaska Air Group carriers with any frequency, that’s a solid return on that spending.

3x points on foreign purchases

The Atmos Rewards Summit Card offers 3x points on foreign purchases, which presents an interesting opportunity for US military families stationed overseas in Japan, United Kingdom, Korea, Germany, Italy, the Middle East, and around the world.

This includes purchases made in foreign currency and purchases made in US dollars, as long as the transaction is made or processed outside the United States.

This is a unique spending category I have no seen on other cards.

Other categories:

  • 3x points on dining & restaurant purchases
  • 3x points on rent payments through Bilt (3% fee)
  • 1x points on all other eligible purchases
  • 1 Status point per $2 of spending

Atmos Summit Card Companion Award

Cardmembers review an annual 25,000-point Global Companion Award on their cardmember anniversary each year. If you travel with a companion, you can redeem award tickets together and take 25,000 points off per person.

The Atmos™ Rewards Summit Visa Infinite® Credit Card is offering a large welcome offer and fantastic ongoing annual benefits. For military servicemembers and spouses covered by the Military Lending Act, this is a great card with an annual fee reduced to $0.

Alaska Airlines partners with oneworld alliance partners such as American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, Qantas, and Qatar Airways.

Even if you don't fly Alaska or Hawaiian, you can probably find a good use of Atmos Rewards miles.
