When I travel TDY for work, I try to always select a Hilton hotel first, then a Marriott if I cannot get the Hilton branded property.

You can get complimentary Diamond Status at all Hilton Hotels with the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card.

I consolidate my points and provides the best reward program return. I find it best to select one chain whether it's Hilton, Hyatt, International Hotel Group (IHG), or Marriott Bonvoy and try to stay there as much as possible and get their co-branded credit card to maximize your points. I usually switch chains every two or three years to give myself options when I want to redeem my points.

Hilton Military Discount Promo Codes

Hilton offers a variety of military discounts. These include the military family rate (usually 10% off) and the government or military rate. This rate is usually fixed at whatever the local lodging per diem is authorized. Occasionally a specific hotel may offer a military discount if you call them as well.

Some other ways to take advantage of military and government rates at Hilton is to search the main Hilton.com page. Select “advanced search,” then “Add a Special Rate Code.” Check the box for “Gov't/Military Rate” and check out the savings on the results page. You don't need to be on official business to use the gov't/military rate either. The hotel may ask for military ID, but they won't ask to see your orders.

For instance, for an upcoming weekend 2 night stay at the Skirvin Oklahoma City is $97/night at the military rate. The normal rate is $179 and the HHonors rate is $149/night. So you can save 35% off of the Hilton HHonors rate just by checking the military/gov't rate box. That's a great military discount!

Hilton HHonors Program for Military

The Hilton Honors program is a world class hotel loyalty program, allowing you to rack up rewards points and stay for free at many of their properties around the world. I am planning a 5 day trip to a resort in Thailand next year, paid for entirely by points. Using credit cards and staying just a few nights a year, you can easily rack up 200,000 points or more in a year.

An easy way to maximize your Hilton stay is with the Hilton Honors Aspire Card from American Express, which will allow you to check in with free Diamond status. Having status at a hotel makes the check in experience so much more pleasant. Amex offers special military protections to active duty military servicemembers.

Usually the hotel will offer you a free beverage or snack upon check in. Sometimes you will even get free drink coupons to the bar. The American Express Platinum Card® also gives you automatic Gold status with Hilton properties.

Hilton's 14 Brands with Military Discounts

Hilton owns 14 hotel and resort brands, from luxury to affordable.

  • Hilton Luxury Brands: Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts
  • Upper scale: Hilton, Curio: A Collection by Hilton, Embassy Suites, Tapestry
  • Upscale: Canopy, DoubleTree, Hilton Garden Inn, Homewood Suites
  • Affordable: Hampton Inn, Home2 Suites, Tru
  • Time Shares: Hilton Grand Vacations

Two of the Hilton brands that have stood out to me are the Embassy Suites and DoubleTree. Most Embassy Suites I have stayed at offer some sort of “Manager's Welcome” where there is a free happy hour on adult beverages and usually some free food as well. Always a nice change of pace and a good way to socialize with your fellow travelers.

DoubleTree stands out because they always presents me with a warm chocolate chip cookie when I check in. This is probably the cheapest way to buy my loyalty, but it works!

Which hotel chain do you prefer? Have you found any other good Hilton Hotels military discounts or promo codes?

  1. Something to consider as well is the Hilton Diamond status available with the Amex Hilton Aspire Card ($450 AF waived). I recently had a stay totaling ~$450, and ended up with ~14k points because of 100% Diamond bonus, and double point promo (basically triple points).

  2. Also wanted to point out to Amex Platinum members that you can also receive Gold status with Marriott by linking your Gold SPG account to your Marriott account. Useful in the rare situations that a Hilton-brand hotel is unavailable.
