Military Car Insurance Quotes
To compare apples to apples, I ran a car insurance quote with USAA and GEICO on the same day.
I ran it for Honolulu, Hawaii for a married O-4 in the Air Force with a 2015 Mazda 3.

USAA Six-Month Premium is $483.56 vs. $432.30 GEICO with military discount quote. At least for my quote, GEICO saved me $50 over six months versus going with USAA.
I am currently a USAA car insurance customer and do not plan on switching at this time. USAA has treated me well over my 12+ years of membership and $100/year of savings is not enough savings for me to abandon them for GEICO.
GEICO vs USAA
This is the battle royale for military servicemembers when it comes to cheap auto insurance. Who is cheaper: GEICO or USAA? Does USAA or GEICO have better customer service?
User's on Reddit report that switching from USAA to GEICO saved $900, $1200, or even as much as $2000 per year on their insurance. Here was one quote that summarizes people switching from USAA to GEICO:
19 years of USAA insurance and I switched to GEICO this month. Two houses and two cars covered for $950 a year less with GEICO including increased coverage limits. No amount of customer service is worth that much to me.
JD Power ranked all auto insurance companies on their site based on consumers auto insurane claims experience. USAA received 5 stars in all categories except rental car experience. GEICO was 3 stars overall and in most categories.

Military Car Insurance FAQ
Yes, in order to qualify for USAA auto insurance, you must be a USAA member. You are eligible for USAA membership if you are active duty, Guard or Reserve, a veteran, an eligible family member, or a cadet or midshipman. Eligible family members includes children of parents who are USAA members.
It depends on where you live. USAA can be the cheapest car insurance but it is worth 15 minutes of your time to get a quote from another auto insurance company. Some people report saving hundreds or even thousands of dollars by comparing auto insurance quotes.
USAA can be cheaper than Progressive insurance, but it depends a lot on where you live, how many cars you have, how much you drive, and how old you are. I usually compare car insurance quotes annually and every time I PCS from the top insurance companies to ensure that I'm still getting the best rate with USAA.
USAA typically has an extremely high customer satisfaction ratings vs GEICO's usually more average rating. However your experience can vary depending on the claims adjuster or insurance agent you interact with at the company. It's hard to say if USAA is better than GEICO, but you can compare auto insurance quotes, try their service, and see for yourself which one you prefer.
USAA and GEICO are the 2 most popular car insurance companies with military discounts. USAA frequently ranks highest for customer satisfaction and both companies offer some of the lowest insurance premiums available. The Progressive military discount offers up to a 15% in savings for military and immediate families. Allstate and Liberty Mutual “salute veterans” but do not offer a specific military discount.
