Cutting your fixed expenses is one of the most effective ways to free up money to save, invest, and reach financial independence faster. One easy win: take the military discount everywhere it's offered. Below are step-by-step guides to claiming the military discount at seven popular retailers — who qualifies, how much you save, and exactly how to verify your service.

In this guide

Dell Military Discount

The Dell military discount is 10% off for active duty, National Guard, Reserve, veterans, retirees, and military family members. It applies to laptops, PCs, computers, all-in-ones, monitors, displays, gaming PCs, and some accessories.

To claim it, head to the Dell Military page and click “Get Coupon.” Use your military email address (ending in .mil) and Dell will email you a coupon code to paste in your cart at checkout.

No .mil email? You're still eligible. Contact Dell at militarydiscount@dell.com or call the North American Sales Team at 1-866-871-9875 (8 AM–7 PM CST, Mon–Fri) and they can verify your military affiliation.

Dell military discount FAQ

How much is the Dell military discount? 10% off computers, tablets, laptops, gaming PCs, accessories, and monitors.

Is there a Dell military discount code? No code is needed — you receive a personal coupon by email after verifying with your .mil address (or by contacting Dell directly).

Who is eligible? Active duty, National Guard, Reserves, family members, veterans, and retirees.

Home Depot Military Discount

Active duty service members, spouses, retirees, and veterans can save up to 10% with the Home Depot military discount, available both online and in store. The discount is capped at $400 per calendar year (10% on up to $4,000 of eligible purchases) and resets every January 1. Because each eligible person gets their own discount, a military couple can save up to $800 per year.

How to enroll: Register in advance and verify your military service on the Home Depot website. You'll receive a QR code in the Home Depot app (or on the website) to use for in-store purchases. For online orders, just be logged into your verified Home Depot account.

Who qualifies: Active duty in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Space Force, NOAA, and USPHS; National Guard; veterans of all branches; service-connected disabled veterans; and immediate family members.

Exclusions

Some items are excluded, including (but not limited to): select items, services and fees, some commodity products, lumber, wire, building materials, value-priced merchandise, appliances, tool rental fees, labor, gift cards, and freight/delivery. Most other products are eligible.

The Lowe's military discount is similar to Home Depot's.

Microsoft Store Military Discount

The Microsoft Store offers 10% off to active duty, Guard, Reserve, veterans, retirees, and military families — every day. It applies to Surface devices, Windows PCs, and many other products. (Microsoft Office is handled separately — see the Microsoft Office military discount, which is up to 30% off.)

How to get it: Follow this link to the Microsoft Store and find a product. Under “Add to cart,” look for “Special pricing for eligible students, parents, teachers, and military. Check now.” Click “Check Now,” sign in (or create) a free Microsoft account, and confirm you're a U.S. service member. Once you see “You're eligible for special student or military pricing,” add to cart and check out at 10% off. No code required.

Exclusions

Not eligible: digital games, apps, in-app content and subscriptions, movies/TV; gift cards and services (e.g., Skype, Xbox Live); personalized/customized products; Xbox consoles, games, and accessories; and Office software (covered by the separate Office program). Military support line: 1-877-696-7786.

Oakley Standard Issue (Military Discount)

Oakley runs a dedicated Standard Issue program for U.S. military, government, law enforcement, and first responders — a members-only store offering the same eyewear sold to civilians at a deep discount. For example, polarized Gascan sunglasses that run ~$163 retail are around $100 with free shipping through Standard Issue.

How to sign up: Go to the Oakley Standard Issue site and click “Register” in the top navigation (it takes about two minutes). Verify your status — note you cannot use a .mil or .gov email. Oakley verifies eligibility through SheerID, which matches your name, branch, and email; about 84% of military customers are verified instantly, and the rest usually within ~5 minutes via a quick document review.

Eligible: U.S. military and federal personnel, veterans and retirees, active duty, National Guard, Reserves, and Coast Guard — plus first responders (state/local and federal law enforcement, fire, and EMS).

Standard Issue carries prescription and standard eyewear, ballistic eye protection, accessories, and apparel — and even the Oakley Light Assault Boot 2 (in Coyote / Federal Tan).

T-Mobile Military & Veteran Discount

T-Mobile offers a military discount on its postpaid plans for active duty, Guard, and Reserve service members, plus a discount for veterans. It's worth checking your bill — discounts sometimes drop off after plan changes.

If you have a .mil email (e.g., @mail.mil, @us.af.mil, @us.army.mil, @usmc.mil, @navy.mil): use the Employee Discount page and enter your military email. The form takes under three minutes and verification is usually near-instant.

If you're a veteran or don't have easy email access: upload an ID through the T-Mobile Advantage page. Accepted documents include a DD214, a recent LES or retiree account statement (within three months), Veteran's ID Card, CWF ID Card, a military designation on a valid state driver's license, Veteran's Advantage Card, or an Honorable Discharge Certificate. Redact everything except your name before uploading — don't spread your PII around. Document verification takes about 7–10 days, so the .mil email method is faster if you have it.

Under Armour Military Discount

Under Armour offers a 10% military discount every day at UnderArmour.com, Under Armour shops, and outlet malls, and periodically runs larger promotions (sometimes up to 40%) for the military and first-responder community.

How to get it: Create an account at ID.me to verify your military identity, then go to the Under Armour Freedom page, click “Shop Now,” and apply the military discount at checkout. No promo code needed.

Eligible: active duty, retirees, veterans, military spouses, and military family members — plus first responders (police, fire, nurses, doctors, and EMTs). Shipping is free on orders over $60, and returns are free by mail or in store.

Verizon Military Discount

The Verizon military discount is 15% off a standard plan, or up to $25 off per month on unlimited plans (the exact amount depends on how many lines you have). A cell phone plan is a recurring fixed expense, so this is an easy monthly saving.

Who qualifies

Military members (active duty, Guard, or Reserve in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard), all uniformed services including NOAA and the U.S. Public Health Service, veterans, retirees, cadets, and Gold Star family members. Military spouses and family members qualify as long as the service member or veteran is the primary account holder. Service-academy cadets (West Point, Annapolis, Air Force Academy) and contracted ROTC cadets with a military ID are eligible.

How to activate

Start here and scroll to “Verify your eligibility or check on the status of your military discount.” You'll create a Veterans Advantage account (Facebook or email login); the MilVet ID system verifies your status automatically after a few questions. You can also register at any Verizon retail store.

Deployment benefit

Verizon will suspend your service during a military deployment — through the My Verizon app or online — for up to 3 years and 90 days.

Military Discount FAQ

Do you need a .mil email to get a military discount?

Not usually. Some retailers like Dell and T-Mobile accept a .mil email for instant verification, but all of the stores on this page offer alternatives — ID.me, SheerID, or a Veterans Advantage account — so veterans, retirees, and family members can verify without one.

Can veterans and retirees get these military discounts?

Yes. Every retailer on this page extends its military discount to veterans and retirees, and most include military spouses and immediate family members as well.

How is military status verified online?

Most retailers use a verification service such as ID.me, SheerID, or Veterans Advantage / MilVet ID. You answer a few questions or upload a document like a DD214, and the majority of applicants are approved instantly.

Which retailer offers the biggest military discount?

Among these seven, Verizon (15% off, or up to $25 per month on unlimited plans) and Under Armour (10% every day, occasionally up to 40% during promotions) tend to deliver the most savings. Home Depot's 10% is generous but capped at $400 per year.

Do military spouses and family members qualify?

Often, yes. Dell, Home Depot, Microsoft, Under Armour, and Verizon all extend their discount to military family members. For Verizon, the service member or veteran must be the primary account holder.

Do I need a coupon or promo code?

Usually not. Microsoft, Under Armour, and Verizon apply the discount automatically once you are verified. Dell emails you a personal coupon code, and Home Depot issues a QR code to use for in-store purchases.

Are military discounts available year-round?

Yes. Dell, Home Depot, Microsoft, Oakley Standard Issue, and Verizon offer their discounts every day. Under Armour's base 10% is always available, with larger limited-time promotions throughout the year.
